The Office of Innovation & Technology (IT) is the central IT agency for the City of Philadelphia, headed by the Chief Information Officer (CIO).  OIT oversees all major information and communications technology initiatives for the City of Philadelphia – increasing the effectiveness of the information technology infrastructure, where the services provided are advanced, optimized, and responsive to the needs of the City of Philadelphia’s businesses, residents, and visitors. OIT responsibilities include: identifying the most effective approach for implementing new information technology directions throughout city government; improving the value of the city’s technology assets and the return on the city’s technology investments; ensuring data security continuity; planning for continuing operations in the event of disruption of information technology or communications services; and supporting accountable, efficient and effective government across every city department, board, commission and agency.

Job Description

OIT’s Communications’ Unit is currently seeking a talented Utility Specialist that will perform a variety of tasks with the City’s electrical systems that include maintaining and/or repairing systems. In addition, the Utility Specialist will properly connect and test equipment, identify impending problems and troubleshoot existing problems under the supervision of the unit’s supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with installation of job sites in an efficient and safe manner keeping it clean, organized and professional
  • Perform on-site troubleshooting
  • Responsible for catalog and inventory equipment
  • Perform orders from supervisors for maintenance and repair of systems
  • Effectively assist supervisors and other technical staff in testing, cleaning and repairing systems
  • Clear and clean job sites of debris and other materials and ensure that they are restored to their original states
  • Capable programming key cards with light mechanical aptitude and minor maintenance repair
  • Perform other job assignments as needed & directed by management
  • Complete necessary paperwork in accurate and legible manner
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Keep work truck clean and organized

  • Communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally

  • Access all areas of route vehicle, including loading and uploading materials
  • Access and maneuver in, and tolerate small crawl spaces
  • Effectively communicate across all lines of business, and will levels of management
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Ability to take direction and work independently
  • Lift a minimum of 95 lbs
  • Reach and work above one’s head
  • Climb ladders and tolerate heights reaching a minimum of 12 feet

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-3 years of related experience+
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Innovation & Technology and Human Resources

Additional Information

The successful candidate must reside in the City of Philadelphia or establish primary residence in the City of Philadelphia within 6 months of employment.
